The town of Gueydan’s Homecoming is recognized mostly for its unity between past and present. The event continues each year to draw in alumni for a trip down memory lane and a memorable celebration.
This week begins the Homecoming season by giving a spotlight feature each week to this year’s Gueydan High School (GHS) Homecoming Court Maids.
GHS is honored to be represented by their 2023 Homecoming Court. The 12 maids were elected recently by the student body. These remarkable young beauties will represent their classes during all homecoming festivities within the town, during the weeks to come.
This week’s GHS Homecoming Maid spotlight will be on the three 2023 Freshmen Maids. Representing the Freshman class are Maggie Lou Duprie, Ava Claire Elliot, and Adelynn Mae Turner.

Maggie, 14, is the daughter of Rodney Duprie and Amanda Klumpp, both of Gueydan. She is the granddaughter of Rodney and Martha Duprie and Michael and Glinda Mowry, all of Gueydan. Duprie is a three year member of the Beta Club and is a member of the Varsity Cheer team. This summer she assisted as a cheer instructor for the team’s annual mini cheer camp. She is also an honor student and has received awards such as the Social Studies Award. When asked ‘What is her favorite Homecoming memory,’ Maggie stated, “the dance.”

Ava, 14, is the daughter of Robert Elliot and Bonnie Vincent, both of Gueydan. She is also the granddaughter of Donna Vincent, Michael and Dorothy Elliot and the late Leroy Vincent.
Elliot is currently a three year member of the Beta Club and a one year member of 4-H. She is also a member of the Honeybears Softball and Cheer teams. She received a superior ribbon during Southwestern Cheerleaders Association cheer camp this summer. She stated, “My favorite Homecoming tradition is the Homecoming week dress up days.”

Turner, 14, is the daughter of Matthew Turner of Meaux and Jennica Uriegas of Gueydan. She is also the granddaughter of Donald Turner, Cindy Green, and Shelton and Dana Gary, all of Kaplan. Adelynn is an active member of activities such as the Beta Club (four years), the Gueydan High School marching band (five years), and 4-H Club (three years). She was also elected a class officer the last two years. Turner stated, “My favorite homecoming memory is dressing up for homecoming days and my favorite homecoming tradition is the parade.”
