On Friday, 7th grade students in Mrs. Crystal Patin's ELA class held a spirited debate over the issue of "What has a greater influence on the main character of a story: setting, or other characters?"
Students have been reading chapters from "Blood on the River," and used the story to fuel the debate. Mrs. Crystal randomly divided the class into two groups, with one arguing why setting had a greater influence on the main character, and the other arguing that other characters had a greater influence on the main character.
At the conclusion of the debate, students were each asked, based on the arguments presented, to choose which side they personally believed had a greater influence on the main character. Students then switched teams if they were not already on that team.
After the results were tallied, the numbers showed that setting won!
