GHS announces Homecoming maids
GUEYDAN - Like most towns in Southwest Louisiana, Gueydan is gearing up for its homecoming season and residents anxiously await Gueydan High School (GHS) alumni. It is a joyful celebration of GHS history, its present students, and all those who walked the halls of dear old GHS.
The school begins its festivities by choosing a selection of girls worthy of representing their classes as well as the entire school.
The 2022 Homecoming Court Maids were voted on and selected by the student body from a ballot following an application and qualification process. The group of maids were revealed during a special announcement made on Friday, September 16, 2022.
This year’s court includes five senior maids, three junior maids, two sophomore maids, and three freshmen. These young ladies will represent their classes during homecoming festivities throughout the town, during the weeks to come.
The three freshmen maids chosen as representatives of their class are Lakelyn Page Bruce, Millie Anne Elliot, and Kennedi Claire LeBlanc. Lakelyn is the daughter of Gary and Marsha Bruce of Gueydan. Millie is the granddaughter of Reggie and Susan Broussard of Gueydan and the late Cassidy Broussard. Kennedi is the daughter of Ashley and Angela LeBlanc, also of Gueydan.
Sophomore Julia Kaye Cormier represents her class on this year’s homecoming court. Julie is the daughter of Josh and Kalia Cormier of Gueydan. The second sophomore maid, Alexia Gabrielle Fontenot, is the granddaughter of Adam and Terry Dora of Gueydan.
Representing the Junior Class are homecoming court maids: Ryleigh Marie Duprie, Averi Jean Vincent and Madison Claire Vincent. Ryleigh is the daughter of Rodney Duprie and Amanda Duprie, both of Gueydan. Averi is the daughter of Ronald and Penny Vincent of Gueydan. Madison is the daughter of Tara and Kevin Abshire of Gueydan.
There are five senior maids chosen to take the spotlight in their final opportunity on Homecoming Court and who will have the chance of being crowned the Class of 2023’s Homecoming Queen. These girls include Annalise Michaela Breaux, Ava Michelle Breaux, Kyndal Rae Hanks, Emily Nicole LaComb, and Shelly Angelle Robicheaux. Annalise is the daughter of Charles and Tanya Breaux of Gueydan; Ava is the daughter of Brad and Ashley Breaux of Gueydan; Kyndal is the daughter of Kelly and Crystal Hanks of Gueydan; Emily is the daughter of Ryan and Dotty LaComb of Gueydan and Shelly is the daughter of Clinton and Melissa Bertrand of Gueydan.
The first event honoring the maids was the press day held on Sunday, October 2, followed by a Homecoming Court Tea hosted by the Les Dames de Gueydan on Sunday, October 30. The girls will also be recognized during the annual Powder Puff Football game to also be held on October 30. Other events include the annual Homecoming parade on Friday, November 4, followed by the Homecoming Court presentation on the Ed Baker Football Field and the crowning of the queen during halftime of the football game that evening.
