School Closure due to winter weather
Vermilion Parish Schools will be closed Monday, January 20, 2025, for Martin Luther King Day, as well as on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, and Wednesday, January 22, 2025, due to expected cold weather with the possibility of freezing precipitation.
See complete message from Superintendent Tommy Byler (1/17/2025) below.
In consultation with OEP and National Weather Service, the call for below freezing temperatures will begin early Sunday evening and last until late Wednesday early Thursday. In addition, frozen precipitation in the form of snow or ice is forecasted for late Monday until Tuesday afternoon.
Based on these forecasts, we will be out of school on Tuesday and Wednesday. Re entering school on Thursday will be determined by temperatures and the ability to reopen water lines.
ATHLETICS AND EXTRACURRICULAR EVENTS
Events and practices may take place today and tomorrow. Practices indoors may take place until Sunday at noon. After that all events are shut down until further notice.
All external buildings will have water lines shut down today after school.
Stadiums will be shut down on Sunday.
Main buildings will not be turned off if there are no externally exposed pipes
We will update periodically when necessary throughout the event. Please check your emails or social media for any updates.
Stay warm and safe.
